Why Choose IB?

The decision to register for the International Baccalaureate Diploma can be made by looking at some key considerations including:

  1. academic background - sufficient reading, writing and numeracy skills and good study habits

  2. personal development - a desire for personal growth, challenge and interest in the aims of the IB Program

  3. academic skills and development - development of strength in several subject areas together with excellent learning skills

  4. post-secondary opportunities and success - including advance credit, enhanced recognition when applying for programs, scholarship and bursary access, international recognition and excellent skills for university study

In general, the IB Diploma Program can be understood as:

  1. a university or college preparatory

  2. international in character and recognition

  3. broadly-based through courses from six defined disciplines

  4. enriched and academically challenging

  5. a formation in citizenship, global awareness and effective thinking

There are many sources of information on the value of an IB education.  At the Rural, IB students find an environment where they know their classmates share a common interest in learning; develop advanced study, time management and discussion skills; participate in a broad range of activities in support of their community; engage in personal challenges geared to growing in creativity and physical wellness and have a two-year continuum of support from teachers as they prepare for IB assessments.  They also continue the track record of our IB graduates who have been highly successful in their assessment results as well as in post-secondary programs.
