The IB Diploma Program at the Rural

 

Charlottetown Rural High School became an International Baccalaureate World School in 2008 and our first class began in the Fall of 2009.   We have graduated IB Diploma candidates each year beginning with our first cohort in May 2011.  Students begin the Diploma Program in grade 11 and continue through grade 12.  Students considering IB are offered Charlottetown Rural Diploma Preparation courses in the grade 10 year.

The IB Diploma Program was created in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 as an opportunity for international schools to deliver a common curriculum and provide university entrance credentials for students who move from one country to another. 

 

Since then, the Program has developed into an internationally recognized,  two year, university/college preparatory education emphasizing personal and academic development with a global perspective.  IB continues to expand its Diploma, Primary and Middle Years Programs across the world with particularly rapid growth in Canada and the United States.

The goals of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program are defined within the IB Mission Statement and the IB Learner Profile.   

​

We are proud of our IB graduates in their demonstration of both academic success and incorporation of the goals of an IB Education in their own lives.  Our IB Staff recognize and share in the dedication of students and we are grateful for the support of parents and members of our community who play key roles in students' success.

The IB Mission Statement

 

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.

​

These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
